First and foremost, I would like to thank you for visiting the blog and reading about the RevolUMCion. It means a lot to me, and I consider it a means of support in and of itself. However, there are many other ways that you can support and be part of the RevolUMCion.
In The United Methodist Church (as many of you, being United Methodists yourselves probably know), our membership vows (which you may recall having recommitted to them at a baptism, perhaps?) say that we will support the church with our prayers, our presence, our gifts, our service, and our witness. So here, I request that you would support me through those means.
PRAYERS – Should be pretty self evident. Please keep me in your prayers, please keep the Centro Popular para America Latina de Comunicacion (CEPALC – my site placement) in your prayers, please keep the people of Colombia in your prayers, etc. So basically, please just keep my service in your prayers generally; God will understand the gaps that need to be filled in, even if you don’t pray the most all-inclusive prayer.
PRESENCE – Okay, so not all of you can be physically present here with me, but I encourage you to be present by subscribing to the blog and reading the updates, by becoming my friend on Facebook if you aren’t already, and so forth. Be in contact, and please be present to my experience, even from several thousand miles away. And I promise to continually be present to your experience, whatever it may be.
GIFTS – Here comes the fun part…money. So, missionaries like myself are supported through this amazing program of The United Methodist Church called The Advance. If you don’t know about it, I encourage you to look it up. Missionaries receive support both from apportionments from local churches and from gifts which are specifically directed towards the missionary service through The Advance. Each of us has our own Advance project number, and gifts can be given to a common pool shared by all United Methodist ministries, but specifically on our behalf through our project numbers. Here is a link to my Advance biography page, which can also hook you in to how to give to my Advance number. Feel free to contact me at email@example.com if you have more questions regarding The Advance or giving.
SERVICE – Again, I understand that many of you won’t be able to join me down here in Colombia while I’m here, but I would encourage you to support the whole of the church and the world through your service by whatever means you can. Get involved in your local communities through your church or other organizations in ways that support ongoing and sustaining community projects that work to support and empower the marginalized in your community.
WITNESS – I invite you to journey with me and to bear witness to the stories I share in this blog. Carry them with you, struggle with them, and share them. But don’t just bear witness to these stories; you have your own, and the many, many people around you have their own. So read, listen, share stories, and accept the invitation to become part of the revolution of love and justice.
So, thank you for taking the first step in supporting the RevolUMCion; I hope you stick around to support it even more, and even help to spread the RevolUMCion, because ultimately, this RevolUMCion doesn’t start just with me; it doesn’t start just with you; it doesn’t start with any one individual; it starts with us.
